Last August, the City of Fenton began water main update work on Shiawassee Avenue from Bent Oak to Adelaide. The project abandoned 2,549 feet of galvanized water main, replaced 440 feet of galvanized water main on George Street and updated water service lines to 36 residential water customers.
Last October, Consumers Energy began a gas main replacement project along and crossing Shiawassee from Rounds to Adelaide. The project included updating several residential gas customer’s service lines between the gas main and the gas meter. Consumers Energy completed their project in January 2021.
With underground utility work completed, the City of Fenton will resume the street resurfacing project where Shiawassee Avenue from Bent Oak to Adelaide will be repaved. The project includes curb & gutter repairs, street drain repairs and crosswalk improvements.
Road work is planned to begin the week of April 12th and is expected to be completed by late May. As with any spring project, weather conditions may affect the work schedule.
During construction, traffic on Shiawassee Avenue will be one-way eastbound from Bent Oak to Adelaide. One-way traffic will begin the week of April 12th and remain eastbound only until paving operations are completed.
The posted detour route for westbound Shiawassee will be Adelaide north to Silver Lake Road west to Fenway Drive south to Owen Road east to Shiawassee.
