The Building Inspection Division of Protective Inspection Department is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of all citizens of Fenton by enforcing the City of Fenton Building Code and City Ordinances.
The Building Inspections Department acts as the clearinghouse for zoning compliance, licensing, permits, construction restrictions and reviews. It also coordinates activity between itself, Fire, Planning, and Public Works. Besides reviewing plans, issuing permits, and inspecting buildings, this division also controls signs, fences and accessory structures.
Through the Building Division, the department promotes high standards of community appearance, thriving neighborhoods, and a safe and secure environment.

- As of November 11, 2017, the City of Fenton will be enforcing the State of Michigan electrical, mechanical, and plumbing codes; issuing permits for all work under these codes.
- Starting June 1, 2009, a permit will be required for all roof and siding work done in the City of Fenton. Please call 810-629-2261 with questions.
