A good crew of volunteers from the Beautification Commission, Library Board, Museum Board and City Council all pitched in help spread mulch and plant flowers at downtown's municipal buildings.
Saturday was the Beautification Commission's annual Planting Day, when, guided by Sarah Angus, the city's master gardener, volunteers help plant flowers that match the splendor of the city's signature hanging baskets.
Mayor Pro Tem and City Council representative on the commission Pat Lockwood thanked the volunteers, and said their "great attitudes during sometimes backbreaking work" helped make the hours go by faster.
"You can be extremely proud of the work you did, as the city is a model of beauty and known for its ability to attract committed volunteers," she said.
